What Triclosan is & what it does

Triclosan is a synthetic chlorinated aromatic compound long used as a preservative and antibacterial agent in cosmetics, soaps, and personal care products. In formulas it helps control microbial growth and was historically added to deodorants, cleansers, and toothpaste.
