A fungal-acne-safe sunscreen avoids the ingredients that feed Malassezia, the yeast behind fungal acne: free fatty acids, many esters, oils and butters, and polysorbates. What feeds fungal acne

Malassezia feeds on specific lipids: free fatty acids, many fatty esters, plant oils and butters, and polysorbates. Our fungal-safe score reads the formula for these triggers rather than trusting a "non-comedogenic" or "oil-free" claim, which does not cover yeast.

Fungal acne is different from regular acne, so a normal non-comedogenic pick can still flare it. If you break out in small, uniform bumps, combine this filter with the Non-comedogenic one to cover both pathways.

Frequently asked questions

What ingredients trigger fungal acne in sunscreen?

Free fatty acids, many esters, plant oils and butters, and polysorbates can all feed Malassezia. Our score scans the ingredient list for each of these triggers.

Are mineral sunscreens always fungal-acne-safe?

Not automatically. Zinc and titanium are fine, but the base can still carry esters or oils that feed the yeast. We score the full list, not just the filters.
